Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books we are adding to our shelves, whether they be physical or digital. This includes physical books bought, digital books downloaded, and those titles received for review.

What could be more dangerous than sending me into a bookstore alone?
Sending me into a bookstore alone when there's a 30% off sale on all hardcovers.
Yeah, I may have splurged a bit...
The first 2 books of The Dandelion Dynasty were so amazingly good, making my annual Best-Of lists for 2015 and 2016, that there was no way I could pass up grabbing The Veiled Throne by Ken Liu, especially not with 5 years of waiting to build the anticipation. I had hoped to pick up a copy to take on vacation before Christmas, but nobody locally had it in stock, and an online order wouldn't arrive in time, so I resigned myself to waiting.
When I wasn't able to find a copy of Liu's latest, She Who Rides the Storm by Caitlin Sangster almost became my vacation read instead. That cover was love at first sight, and the idea of a healer, a runaway cleric, a snotty archaeologist, and a cloistered girl out to steal the same cursed sword sounded perfect. The YA tag made me reconsider . . . and almost instantly regret doing so. The idea of the book stuck with me so much that I wasted hours searching online (I couldn't remember the author or the title), and then the bookstore went and moved it from the Fantasy shelves where I'd found it, so I spent even more time wandering the YA shelves in search of that cover. After all that, there was no way I wasn't taking it home.
Finally, Revenant by Alex White is a book I'd been looking forward to since the summer, not just a Star Trek DS9 book, but one set during the original series run, and one with Jadzia Dax as the main character. That's all I needed to know to pick it up and start reading it immediately.
I keep hearing amazing things about Empire of the Vampire, I have a copy as well that I'd like to get to😁
ReplyDeleteEven the cashier was gushing about it, said it was the best opening to a book she's ever read. :)
DeleteI cannot resist a good book sale either. She Who Rides the Storm sounds really good! I am adding that one to my wish list. I have also been wanting to try the The Dandelion Dynasty. I am glad to hear you have enjoyed it so far. I hope you have a Happy New Year and enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteI just got Empire of the Vampire and I'm really excited to read that book soon! Great haul!

I also went into a bookstore...with my family...and we spent an hour and a half...thankfully it was used books, but I still got a haul. Between the four of us we spent over $100, so really not that bad, LOL. https://cindysbookcorner.blogspot.com/2022/01/stacking-shelves-4sunday-post-1.html
