Stacking The Shelves: Week 1 (2022)

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books we are adding to our shelves, whether they be physical or digital. This includes physical books bought, digital books downloaded, and those titles received for review.

Review Titles

After a few quiet weeks over the holidays, the review stacks overflow this week with the help of Dundurn Press, St. Martin's Press, Bumbershoot Press, Tor Books, and CAEZIK SF & Fantasy.

I've had my eye on The Petting Zoos by K.S. Covert for a while now, so I'm excited to have a copy in hand. In a virus-fearing world of masks and gloves, not being touched in years can drive people crazy with skin hunger, but human petting zoos - highly illegal clubs where people can go to touch and be touched - offer a return to life. Available 21 Jun 2022 from Dundurn Press.

It's been a decade since I read the Pine Deep trilogy, but I've kept Jonathan Maberry on my radar - and a cover blurb from Michael Moorcock has put him back on my TBR shelf with Kagen the Damned. Worn by his oath, abandoned by the Gods, and fueled by rage, Kagen Vale must venture into strange lands, battle bizarre and terrifying creatures, and gather allies for a suicide mission into the heart of the Witch-king’s empire. Available 10 May 2022 from St. Martin's Press.

The Discord of Gods by Jenn Lyons may very well be my most anticipated series conclusion since Sanderson stepped in to wrap up The Wheel of Time. Relos Var's final plans to enslave the universe are on the cusp of fruition. He believes there's only one being in existence that might be able to stop him: the demon Xaltorath. As these two masterminds circle each other, though, neither is paying attention to the third player on the board, Kihrin. Available 26 Apr 2022 from Tor Books.

The Reinvented Heart came my way via a review request, and the team of Cat Rambo & Jennifer Brozek caught my eye. Stories that complicate sex and gender by showing how shifting technology may affect social attitudes and practices, stories that include relationships with communities and social groups, stories that reinvent traditional romance tropes and recast them for the 21st century, and above all, stories that experiment, astonish, and entertain. Available 04 Mar 2022 Bumbershoot Press.

Cakewalk by Douglas Bell was a NetGalley discovery that I had to take a chance on. Bryan, a Black, divorced father of two, had finally achieved the career success he had always dreamed of,but his teenage son, an aspiring drag queen, does not fit into his public persona - and neither does a secret relationship with his white transgender girlfriend, Nadia. Caught between his pride and PRIDE, Bryan must decide where his loyalties lie. Available 10 Mar 2022 CAEZIK SF & Fantasy,

I'm unforgivably late in getting to the first Lewdmancy by Eden Redd, so getting a copy of its sequel, The Ritual, from her Redd Light ARC Group is the perfect opportunity to catch up. We continue to follow the adventures of Emma and her growing harem as she learns lewd magic and saves captured friends. Available 10 Jan 2022.

New Acquisitions: Paperback Treasures

Nothing new on the paperback front this week...

New Acquisitions: Digital Titles

A trio of new acquisitions on the digital front...

The Throne of the Gods Part 1 and Part 2 by Nikki Crescent are the story of a loyal, humble guard, whose only dream was to one day serve as a royal guard for the queen - but it’s not quite the dream life he was hoping for. One day into the job, he finds himself caught between Queen Kali and her sister, Oria, who thinks that it’s her turn to sit in the queen’s throne.

Naked Slave by Nika S. & James Llewellyn Gainsborough is a story of Dominance and submission, BDSM play, threesomes, blackmail, extreme edging, industrial espionage, romantic & passionate love, and crushing heartbreak.

    1. I've been so done with pandemic/apocalyptic tales, but I love its take on things. Wanting to be touched is so simple - I think we can all relate.

  2. I'm looking forward to The Discord of Gods so damn hard I've already got the audio on pre-order. I mean, I have the eARC but that series has been just incredible in audio. The narrators, one and all, have been fantastic!
