Even though it's harder, darker, and crueler than I generally prefer as a work of erotica, The Slave His Mistress And Her Mother was still entirely fascinating as a human drama and a tense thriller.

In the first book, The Slave His Mistress And Her Mother, Sophia James introduces us to Jenny Clarke, a young woman to regrets the relationship choices that led to the breakup of a bad marriage, and Eileen, who takes advantage of her daughter's vulnerability and introduces her to the idea of female domination and cuckolding. It is also where we first meet Carl, the wealthy young man who pays professional Dominatrices to try and recapture that submissive love he once felt for Jenny. The second book, The Aftermath, explores Jenny's blossoming dominance, and shows how Carl finds himself caught between his near-perfect wife and his fantasy Mistress.

The third book, The Contract, deals a little more with Carl's temptation for sexual slavery to Jenny, while also exploring more of Eileen's relationship with her slave husband (as well as revealing some of her motivations). The fourth book, The Wife, switches things up with a softer, more sensual chapter that explores the erotic lengths to which Eileen will go to ensure Carl's wife doesn't interfere with her daughter's plans to enslave him, while also demonstrating the contrast between loving family life and debased slavery that Carl can expect with Jenny.

There are currently 8 books to the series, but this seemed a natural point at which to pause and consider the themes and to admire the narrative details. This is very much a story of female dominance and female supremacy, one in which those women who choose to embrace their dominance can and should have it all. It's a story that explores just how easily men can be controlled, whether they are submissive or not, with even the most rugged Alpha males easily manipulated by feminine charms. The ways in which that dominance is explored varies from woman to woman, and the story encompasses everything from seduction to blackmail, from playful eroticism to cruel humiliation, and from sexual punishment to sheer torture.

Naturally, I appreciated the idea of women having it all, and of men serving in the role or purpose to which they're most naturally suited. There are elements of cuckolding and polyamory to the story, and a submissive sort of bisexuality (for men and women) that has more to do with the power exchange than sexual attraction. For all its harshness, it is a very smart story, and one with real depth in terms of human behavior and motivations. We see the jilted wife in Jenny, where dominance is more about sexual power and having it all, and the bereaved widow in Eileen, where that same dominance has a chilling undercurrent of revenge. We see something altogether different in Helen, Carl's wife, but to talk of that would be to spoil certain surprises.

As for those narrative details, Sophia James has a way with words and an eye for detail. Every scene comes alive with exquisite detail in terms of clothing, movements, and physical responses. We see, feel, and hear what is going on, with the dialogue providing the erotic (and often humiliating) context. That attention to detail also shows itself in little things, like the casual reference to how carpeting was removed from stairs so that a submissive can better hear the click of high heels approaching.

Most importantly, The Slave His Mistress And Her Mother is a story that grows and evolves with each new installment, deepening the story and revealing more about the characters. It's that storytelling that intrigued me most, entirely subverting certain expectations and challenging my feelings for the characters, Eileen especially. I'm eager to catch up with the next four chapters when I have a chance, as much to see if Jenny can remain true to her ideas when it comes to domination as to seek a resolution for Eileen
