Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books we are adding to our shelves, whether they be physical or digital. This includes physical books bought, digital books downloaded, and those titles received for review.

Review Titles

A trio of review titles this week, 2 ebooks from good friends and a finished paperback of a highly anticipated January release!

The Keeper at the Gates is a title I'm hugely excited for, the first from an old friend as Allison Church.

With a well-earned reputation for being rebellious, scandalous, and impossible to work with, Father Donavon Pike has a knack for causing trouble. When he finally gets a church of his own, he truly believes that his life is about to change. Little does he know when he learns a dangerous secret about his much-treasured faith, Father Pike soon finds himself struggling to face the devastating truth behind the lie that he's been calling his life. Learning the unfathomable power behind "The Keeper at the Gates."

The Agent G Omnibus by C.T. Phipps is another collection from a friend who I've always enjoyed reading.

“Black Technology has made murder a billion dollar industry.”

The International Refugee Society has twenty-six cybernetically enhanced “Letters,” and for the right price, they’ll eliminate anyone. They’ve given up their families and their memories for ten years of service with the promise of a life of luxury awaiting them.

Agent G is one of these “Letters,” but clues to his past are starting to emerge while he’s on a dangerous mission to infiltrate the Society’s most dangerous competitor. In the midst of all the violence, subterfuge, and deceit, he’ll need to keep his wits about him and trust sparingly.

Hall of Smoke is a standalone epic fantasy by H.M. Long featuring warrior priestesses and fickle gods at war.

Hessa is an Eangi: a warrior priestess of the Goddess of War, with the power to turn an enemy's bones to dust with a scream. Banished for disobeying her goddess's command to murder a traveller, she prays for forgiveness alone on a mountainside.

While she is gone, raiders raze her village and obliterate the Eangi priesthood. Grieving and alone, Hessa - the last Eangi - must find the traveller and atone for her weakness and secure her place with her loved ones in the High Halls. As clans from the north and legionaries from the south tear through her homeland, slaughtering everyone in their path Hessa strives to win back her goddess' favour.

Beset by zealot soldiers, deceitful gods, and newly-awakened demons at every turn, Hessa burns her path towards redemption and revenge. But her journey reveals a harrowing truth: the gods are dying and the High Halls of the afterlife are fading. Soon Hessa's trust in her goddess weakens with every unheeded prayer.

Thrust into a battle between the gods of the Old World and the New, Hessa realizes there is far more on the line than securing a life beyond her own death. Bigger, older powers slumber beneath the surface of her world. And they're about to wake up.

New Acquisitions: Digital Titles

A handful of digital titles this week covering a mix of genres and kinks...

Trade Bait is the second chapter of The Ex-Boy Friend Series by Taedis, a genderswap/bodyswap erotic thriller about an ex-boy who's a friend, but not a boyfriend.

Bane of Ashkarith by Ariel Paiement is high fantasy with an archaeologist protagonist whose discovery of an ancient journal in the arms of an unearthed corpse threatens to smear his home’s legendary heroes.

Vampiro and Other Strange Tales of the Macabre by Kevin J. Kennedy offers up stories inspired by ‘Tales from the Crypt,’ ‘Eerie India,’ ‘The Twilight Zone’ & ‘The Outer Limits.’

Blitz of the Butterflies by Richard Nero features a President who has royally pissed off a house of drag queen assassins, a First Lady with a dark Russian lover, a desperate maid with a shocking secret, and a transgender teen scion in love with a downtown stripper. Yes, please!

DIVAS: The Saga of Too-Sweet by Ralph Griffith is a comedy about transsexual bank robbers and two serial killers, which might sound strange, but which comes off beautifully as a well written cult classic.

Fullblown Alchemist by Eri Nance finds a young man willing to survive, or even enjoy, the experience serving the mysterious monster eels who possess Alchemy powers of their own.

Captive of the Hive by S.L. Hadley is the story of commander taken captive by a race of ravenous, hive-minded insects who don't want her for their next meal, but for their Queen.
