WTF Weekend: Demencious Saga by Sadie Sins (@sinningsadie)

Demencious Saga is the first saga in the mm erotic world of Demon Bonded. This serial is a fun, suspenseful play on monster collecting and male harems. Expect demon bonding, master/slave relationships of mild and abusive nature, multiple partners, magical powers, learning how to be a sorcerer, and conflict with crueler demon masters.

Something hunts in the dark…

After his father is laid off, Ky Scion is forced to reside in his ancient family manor in the small town of Blackstone Falls. He’s an outcast to the local farmers, too Goth and too gay. Ky turns to repairing the huge house while pursuing an art degree. His parents are blind to the terrible secret he discovers among the bloodstained walls. Something lives in the dark, in the nooks and hideaways of the old house. Someone with hot breath and strong hands who wakes Ky up in the middle of the night.

In the dark hides the powerful Relics. Unique and beautiful, they're exploited for their magic and fought after viciously. Relics aren't items, they're sentient beings, demonic men stolen from their world to be bonded into servitude to callous sorcerers.

Ky's grandfather disappeared years ago, leaving his Relics to be killed off one by one. The monster who feeds on the Relics smells of rot and blood, and is soon to attack. Ky’s not a sorcerer, and has no way to defend himself from the murderous beast set on revenge.

There really are monsters under the bed, in the closet, and in the basement . . . but, as Sadie Sins will tell you,the worst of them all wear human faces.

Her Demencious Saga bundles together the first 4 episodes of Demon Bonded: A Gay Monster Harem Serial, along with a bonus episode, and it makes for a fantastic introduction to her world. It is a series that starts out with some nice atmospheric foreboding, putting a kinky edge on the sweet story of yaoi erotica, but it quickly gets dark . . . and imaginative . . . and significant.

As a protagonist, Ky is intensely likable. He's gay, goth, and an artist, but not your stereotypical brooding, depressive stereotype. Instead, he's a happy, reasonably well-adjusted young man with a desire to create, and a capacity to love unconditionally.

The ancient family manor he and his parents have just moved into is a perfect setting, part spacious dream palace, and part haunted nightmare dungeon. There's a backstory there that emerges slowly throughout these first four chapters - the creepy manacles upstairs are especially chilling - but we're told early on that nobody else in the family has been able to live there long, and Ky's parents wouldn't have chosen it either, were they not in dire financial straits.

It's a slow-burning story, one that takes its time to develop, teasing the reader with hints and glimpses of those monsters, especially the one under the bed. Sins blends genres exceptionally well, building dramatic tension and supernatural dread even as she fuels the erotic aspects. The inhuman aspect is well-played, maintaining a sense of danger in the face of pleasure, and the way she incorporates cat-like behavior into the developing relationship is exciting. The story grows and expands as it progresses, revealing more of the backstory and more of the mythology, and it is worth waiting for.

I originally read Something Waiting In The Dark as a standalone freebie, and it intrigued me enough to pick up this first bundle, but I was honestly shocked to discover how much better, how much more complex, and how much more satisfying it became. You'll be hooked once you discover what lurks within the closet, and you'll never look back once you realize what lurks in the basement. Be warned, it gets violent as well as erotic, doubling up on the intensity, but the horrific finale of this first bundle is as strong as any mainstream horror novel.

All I can say is, bring on the the Apprentice Saga for the second bundle!
