From the Shelf to the Page: This Week in the Ruins

Stacking The Shelves and Mailbox Monday are a pair of weekly memes that are about sharing the books that came your way over the past week, and which you've added to your shelves - whether they be physical or virtual, borrowed or bought, or for pleasure or review.

Just when I thought I was getting caught up on the review pile, a whole shelf-load of requests came through, including:

Skyfarer by Joseph Brassey
[September 5, 2017]

The Twilight Pariah by Jeffrey Ford
[September 12, 2017]

Paperbacks from Hell: A History of Horror Fiction from the '70s and '80s by Grady Hendrix
[September 19, 2017]

Wrath of the Ancients by Catherine Cavendish
[October 24, 2017]

Bubba and the Cosmic Blood-Suckers by Joe R. Lansdale
[October 31, 2017]

Seventh Decimate by Stephen R. Donaldson
[November 14, 2017]

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is another weekly meme, this time focused on what books are spending the most time in your hands and in your head, as opposed to what's been added to your shelf.

While I'm still enjoying Weldon Burge's Zippered Flesh 3 and Terry Brooks' The Black Elfstone, it's been a rough week and I've been in a foul mood. So, rather than take out my anger on the people around me, I've reached into my Laymon/Lee/Little paperback shelf and indulged in some cruel horror escapism with Dispatch.

What's topping your shelves this week?

  1. A nice horror book always makes you feel better after a crap day or week!

  2. It looks like you got some exciting reads! I love paranormal books, but some horror books are too nightmare inducing for me to read right before sleep! Have fun reading your books.

  4. Years ago I loved Bentley Little. I need to check and see what I have and have not read and maybe add some back into the rotation. I remember his books coming close to scaring me than most. I am getting ready to preorder the Grady Hendrix book. There's something about it that speaks to the horror lover inside. Great haul!

  5. I requested Paperbacks from Hell as well, months ago, it seems! My request is still pending, but I really want to read this. I love Hendrix. Hopefully I'll get approved soon:-)

    1. Same here - I requested it so long ago, I forgot about it. The approval was a nice surprise.

  6. Really looking forward to The Twilight Pariah, and last week I finally gave in to temptation and requested Skyfarer as well. I couldn't help it, as soon as I saw it described as Star Wars-inspired sci-fi, I caved.

  7. Man those titles look awesome! I'm a fan of Donaldson and Brooks but haven't read them in years and years. I finally subscribed to Audible so I can "read" on the road. I forgot how expensive best selling authors can be.

  10. I'm trying to catch up on the review stack too but am currently consumed re-reading the Liaden Universe books and probably won't quit until I have none left to read. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  11. I've been eyeing The Twilight Pariah, but I've been trying *very* hard not to request review copies. We'll see how long that actually lasts. ;) Have a good reading week!
