Waiting On Wednesday: City of Blades by Robert Jackson Bennett

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

City of Blades by Robert Jackson Bennett
Expected publication: January 26th 2016 by Broadway Books

A triumphant return to the world of City of Stairs.

A generation ago, the city of Voortyashtan was the stronghold of the god of war and death, the birthplace of fearsome supernatural sentinels who killed and subjugated millions.

Now, the city’s god is dead. The city itself lies in ruins. And to its new military occupiers, the once-powerful capital is a wasteland of sectarian violence and bloody uprisings.

So it makes perfect sense that General Turyin Mulaghesh— foul-mouthed hero of the battle of Bulikov, rumored war criminal, ally of an embattled Prime Minister—has been exiled there to count down the days until she can draw her pension and be forgotten.

At least, it makes the perfect cover story.

The truth is that the general has been pressed into service one last time, dispatched to investigate a discovery with the potential to change the world--or destroy it.

The trouble is that this old soldier isn't sure she's still got what it takes to be the hero.

City of Stairs was a remarkable book, a multi-genre crossover success that was impressive in both scope and range, with strong characters, an even stronger mythology, and some inventive conflicts and action sequences. I'm really looking forward to seeing where Bennett takes the story next!

    1. Yeah, spam seems to be on the upswing lately. I mark them as spam, block them, and report their profiles, but it seems to take weeks before Google acts on it.

  4. Oh I can't wait for this book either, the temptation to just devour the arc is killing me. I know a lot of folks liked our boy Sigrud from the first book but my favorite was always General Turyin Mulaghesh and it sounds like she is the main character in this book.

  7. Oh yeah, this is high on my list too! I noticed everyone is giving copies away. I should have requested a physical ARC, but I got a digital copy, and I guess I'll just leave it at that. In any form, this is bound to be excellent!
