Waiting on Wednesday: The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss
Expected publication: October 28th 2014 by DAW

Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place.

Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes. And it gives the reader a chance to learn things that only Auri knows....

In this book, Patrick Rothfuss brings us into the world of one of The Kingkiller Chronicle’s most enigmatic characters. Full of secrets and mysteries, The Slow Regard of Silent Things is the story of a broken girl trying to live in a broken world.

It's not quite the third book we've so anxiously been waiting for, but it's still awesome to have a new Rothfuss story set in the same world. What's really interesting about this novella is that Rothfuss has narrated the audio edition of the book, and he's already revealed a teaser clip over at his blog.

  1. He narrated his own audio book? Brave man.

  2. I'm pretty excited about this too. Something to tide us fans over until book three comes out...someday:-)

  3. Yep, definitely going to hit this one up, but I probably won't read it right away, maybe not until I hear news of the third book release. By then, it should be enough to tide me over.

  4. OOoh that looks good! Loving the eerie cover too!

    Have a GREAT day!

  5. I want to read it. Still worry that actually seeing more about Auri will ruin her character arc, but I sure want her story to be awesome.
